Kano state Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Wednesday officially commissioned two aircraft belonging to Azman Airlines, an indigenous company, scheduled to commence operation on local and international routes.
Commissioning the air carriers 737-300 at Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Governor Kwankwaso said that the business would surely contribute greatly to the nation’s economic development.
He noted that the recruitment of 70 percent of state indigenes including 13 out of 40 cabin crews trained by the state government at College of Aviation, Zaria, would reduce the unemployment facing among teeming youth, hoping that when the company expands its business, more qualified Kano indigenes would be absorbed by the company.
A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations to the Executive Governor of Kano state, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, Kwankwaso stressed the need for the airline, which is owned by a Kano businessman, to always give priority to state indigenes whenever it needs to employ workers, recalling that 100 indigenes of the state are currently in Jordan undergoing training as pilots.
The governor advised management of the airline to ensure adherence to flight time schedule, among other quality services, as a way of attracting passengers, pointing out that it is very important for the company, other airlines and employees of the airport to respect passengers by guaranteeing their comfort and safety of their property.
He stated the state government has installed a scanner at MAKIA to ease passenger screening, adding that people should embrace a habit of flying aircrafts as doing so is much safer than travelling by road.
Speaking during the event, the Chairman of Azman Airline, Alhaji AbdulManafi Yunusa Sarina disclosed that the National Hajj Commission has selected the company to operate for this year’s Hajj and Umrah operations, assuring that the airline would live up to the expectation of Nigerians.
In his remarks, Managing Director of the company, Faisal AdulManafi explained that the company commenced processing for registration since 2009, pointing out that all the needed requirements were met before the license was issued.
