Kuje mulls intensive tree planting campaign

As part of measures to tackle climate change, the Kuje Area Council has given strong indication that the Council would soon embark on intensify tree planting awareness campaign in the area.
Making this disclosure, the Head of Department of Environmental Sanitation in charge of Kuje, Mr. Nwanna Timothy, noted that the sensitisation has become necessary in view of the global climate change, which will discourage people from dumping refuse into the drainage system.
The environmental health officer who stated this upon assumption of office pointed out that the advocacy campaign would equally address issues such as deforestation, global warming, flooding as well as erosion control.
The HOD frowned at the negative attitude of members of the public towards sanitation, just as he noted that very soon the department would establish mobile court to try offenders.
He appealed to the residents to dump their waste at the designated areas to enable the department evacuate it to the final dump sites.
He reitrated commitment to sustain the campaign against indiscriminate refuse dump in Kuje and environs such as littering the streets, defacing the environment and blocking the drainage and canals in the area.
The Kuje secribe also cautioned residents to shun violations of FCT environmental laws, even as he implored them to avoid being unfriendly to the environment.
