Kubwa hospital gets accreditation for medical internship training

Efforts at ensuring qualitative healthcare delivery in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have received a boost, as the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) grants approval for the training of medical internship in Kubwa general hospital, Abuja.

According to the registrar of the Council, Dr. Abdulmumini Ibrahim, the approval came as the result of the report by its eight members’ visitation panel to the hospital, on the 9th April, 2014, for the purpose of assessing the staff and facilities on ground, with the view to accrediting the hospital for the carrying out of medical internship.

He said the hospital is further granted a training quota of 24 house officers, while assuring the management of council’s continuous support.

Receiving the approval certificate, the Secretary, FCT Health & Human Services Secretariat (HHSS), Dr. Demola Onakomaiya, said the accreditation would also help improve capacity for house training of health workers in the Territory.

A statement issued at the weekend by the Head, Public Relations of the HHSS, Badaru Yakasai, said the officials of the MDCN made the presentation, when they paid a visit to the Secretariat.

“The FCT hospitals have witnessed a radical change in the last three years of this Administration under the leadership of the FCT minister, Senator Bala Muhammed”.

 “In an effort to provide qualitative health care delivery  and to further decongest the hospitals , the FCT administration recently approve  the employment of 200 health workers that are now rendering   services in 12 general and district hospitals of the FCT,” the statement quoted the Secretary.

Also, Dr. Onakomaiya, disclosed that the Secretariat has concluded arrangement to commission multi drug resistance laboratory, stand-alone pharmacy, intensive care unit and provision of bed space for admission of psychiatric patients as well as introduction of wellness clinic in Kubwa hospital.

Speaking earlier, the Medical Director of Kubwa General Hospital, Dr. Ahmed Danfulani, said that hospital has witnessed a radical change in the last two years of this administration with the additional wards and offices, provision of additional equipments which help the hospital to provide accessible and affordable health care services to the residents of the territory.
