The governor of Niger state, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has said that the security challenge in the country has taken a different dimension, whereby women are now used as suicide bombers.
Aliyu, who expressed sadness over the suicide attack at the Federal College of Education, Kontagora on Wednesday, said the new trend of using female suicide bombers is a challenging dimension in the fight against terror.
He stated this in Kontagora when he visited the scene of the incident yesterday to commiserate with the Emir and people of the area.
He said the trend will not only pose a major challenge, but capable of exposing women in the North to unnecessary discrimination.
He expressed confidence on security operatives in the state, adding that strategies have been put in place to further strengthen existing security agenda in Niger.
Aliyu urged the people to go about their lawful duties insisting that Wednesday attack was designed to cause panic.
Aliyu, while inspecting the ‘Ground Zero’ of the impact scene, observed that the bomber was heading for the crowded shopping center some few meters away. He, therefore, instructed the school management to relocate shopping centers and double security in crowded places.
