Kings and Queens Int’l School holds maiden project day

Kings and Queens International school, Mararaba, Nasarawa state, recently held the maiden edition of the school’s Project Day.
The colourful event which took place in the school’ s auditorium was to showcase talents of the pupils of the school in various entrepreneur skills.
The pupils ranging from ages 5 to 9,displayed their talent in beads jewelries, liquid soaps, clay pots and home decorations such as paintings and throw pillows.
Speaking at the event, the school’s Assistant Head Teacher and administrator, Mrs. Mercy Ugbuji, said criteria for the award of marks to the contestants include quality of work, following project procedures, originality of work, subject knowledge in relationship to topic, communication skills, initiative and personal appearance reflecting the project topic. She said “It has become necessary for the school to encourage the pupils to learn any entrepreneur skill of their choice to become self-employed and even employ others to work for them in future in the event that one could not secure government work after graduation from the higher institution”.
In his remarks, the school’s Director, Mr. Uchenna Okeke, said the essence of the project day is to translate the theoretical aspect of what the pupils are taught in class to practical aspect, strengthen the academic foundation of the children as well as exhibit their various creative works.
He said the school intends to make the event annually adding that from 2019/ 2020 academic year, every teacher will have a project he will work on.
He said teaching children extracurricular activities will make them self-reliant in future.
Some of the parents who spoke at the event, commanded the school management for the initiative saying that entreprenuer skills is a welcome idea, especially with the current rate of unemployment in the country.
Awards were presented to winners of the competition.
Primary 4 pupils whose project is on transportation came first, were presented with a trophy and a certificate, primary 5 and 6 came 2nd, primary 3 came 3rd and the arts section came 4th.
Guests were entertained with songs composed by the school music group.
