A secondary school drop-out, Kelechi Muojekwu, who is alleged to have killed his newly found lover, has been arrested by the Police.
The 31 year-old suspect, who hails from Aguma Village in Umuoji, Anambra state, according to the Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, killed 39 year-old Lizzy Njedika, the Managing Director of Edmark Ltd, a lifestyle and healthcare concern, at her 34 Green Estate residence, in the Amuwo -Odofin local government area of Lagos state, on July 19.
Kelechi, after the act, was said to have immediately packed his bags and told the security guard who mans the gates to the residence that the madam of the house wanted him to withdraw some cash at the nearest ATM machine and so should open the gates because he was going to use the deceased Range Rover Jeep.
On his behest, he was also said to have asked the unsuspecting guard to escort him to the ATM machine where he withdrew one hundred and forty thousand naira belonging to deceased by using her ATM card he took after strangling her.
After dropping off the guard, he again excused himself, by asking to be allowed to fix one of the tyers that had deflated on their way back. He never came back to the house as he was said to have bolted to Ghana along with the Range Rover Jeep, with registration No EKY 509 AZ.
It was the guard, who, the following morning, was approached by one of the daughters of the deceased, who was said to have noticed that the door leading to her mother’s bedroom was locked and wanted to know if her mother did not return home the previous night.
Armed with the information, the guard was said to have followed the young girl to the door step, where he noticed that the door was locked from outside and noticing that things were not normal, the guard was said to have gone to the neighbors where he lent a ladder to peep into the deceased’s bedroom, whereby he noticed that the late woman was lying face up with white foams oozing out of her mouth.
He, it was gathered, made calls through to the deceased siblings and the matter was subsequently reported to the Police.
The Commissioner further said that thereafter, the Area E Commander, Dan Okoro an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was mandated to go after the fleeing killer. The Interpol were also said to have been contacted, stressing that the manhunt soon yielded result, as the suspect was arrested at the border between Ghana and Cote d’ Voire when he wanted to make good his escape to Europe.
Kelechi, in a chat with our correspondent said trouble between him and his live-in lover started when he, overwhelmed with jealousy had a row over persistence male calls the deceased was usually engaged in and that on that fateful night, they had one of such bout, but that it was when his lover slapped him and grabbed his manhood that he got infuriated and seized the wrapper she hung around her neck but that it was when she slumped that he realized what he had done.
He further said that the fear of been lynched by the deceased’s sibling made him take to his heels, but that he will forever live to regret the incident
The matter, according to the Police commissioner, is still under investigation and that as soon as that is completed, the suspect will be charged to court.
