In its efforts to reduce the suffering of women in the society, the Gwandu Local Government Chairman Hon. Mohammed Maude Gwandu has empowered 200 women with different skills and also donated about 40 bags of cement to the people to repair drainages across the 12 communities in the area.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries on Sunday at Gwandu Local Government Council Secretariat, the chairman said that the gesture is part of his administration’s commitment towards empowering people and reducing poverty in the area.
He explained further that a lot of projects that have direct bearing has been executed within two months he assumed office has the acting chairman, promised to empower youth and women in the community in order to bring changes to the area and promote unity with themselves.
Maude pointed out that he has revived the water system in Malisa and Massama communities which by now all the communities are enjoying the supply of portable drinking water which will also give then good healthcare system.
“ This will improve their businesses and also reduce the poverty in the area, the major women occupation in Gwandu is swing of caps, so I decided to donated them with the swing materials which will be a long way for them in improving on their business” he added.
Also in his remark, the Member State House of Assembly representing Gwandu Local Government Area Hon. Habib Labbo Gwandu commended the effort of the chairman, assured him of sponsoring a bill that will support and empowered a women in the area and in the state at large.
“This is the first of its kind in the history of Gwandu that an elected officer will empower women with their business materials, we thank you and assured you of more support towards achieving the aims and objectives” he added.
Giving the vote of thanks, the former Kebbi State Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Mohammed Shala who also expressed satisfaction for the gesture, urge him to do more as God will be with him towards his administration.
Responding while fielding questions from journalists, one of the beneficiary, Sadatu hande thank the council chairman for supporting them with their business items, assured him of using it judiciously and empowering her self.
