From Ahmed Idris Birnin Kebbi

Members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kebbi state chapter rose from its emergency meeting yesterday and resolved to boycott Government House activities in the State indefinitely.
In a press release signed by the Chapel Secretary, Ahmed Idris said that the decision to this effect was taken at the end of the chapel’s emergence Congress meeting which took place at its secretariat, Birnin Kebbi.
During the deliberation, members reasoned that the state government has for an unjustifiable reason undermined their constitutional responsibility to carry out their function as registered conventional media practitioners of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and attached more importance and recognition to the social media (New media).
The Congress also observed that for the non- appointment of a Special Adviser on Media and Publicity who can harmoniously coordinate information and disseminate same accordingly has grossly hindered their professional link in the last three years.
Similarly, the Congress had also deliberated on the sidelining of the conventional media in the just concluded APC Congresses in the State.
“Members hereby wish to inform the general public to bear with the blackout of the Government House activities in the State.”
