The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) of KauraNamoda Federal Polytechnic Zamfara state chapter said it has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged Three Billion Naira fund diversion at the institution.
ASUU said it has demanded that the embattled Rector, Engineer Ahmad AbubakarLugga immediately return the sum of over 3 billion naira allegedly diverted by his administration since 2010 to date.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, the ASUP Chairman, Comrade Engineer Umar UsmanMaikunkele said, the union had on the 16th of January, 2018 passed Vote of No Confidence on the entire management of the institution over financial misappropriation and diversion of public funds.
Maikunkele further informed that, the union has reported the case in writing to the governing council has accepted the petition upon which the principal officers in question were forced to go for compulsory leave with a view to give room for investigations into the matter.
“Thereafter, a Panel of Investigation was constituted by the governing council to investigate into the allegations. “After the completion of the investigation as at the time of this briefing, four of the principal officers of the institution including the Deputy Rector, Librarian, Registrar and the Bursar were served letter relieving them from their positions.
“While a recommendation in respect to the Rector has been communicated to the Honorable Minister of Education in accordance with the Federal Polytechnic Act, however, the union is yet to officially receive the full report of the investigation from the Governing Council”, Maikunkele said.
Similarly, the Chairman stated that, EFCC has been served with a copy of the petition for further and thorough investigation so that the alleged looted funds can be fully recovered.
