From Muhammad Ibrahim, Kaduna

Worried over the recent killings of over 100 villagers in Kaura local government area of Kaduna State, Academic Staff Union of University ( ASUU) Kaduna state University branch has called on the state government to provide adequate security for communities in the area.

ASUU also frowned at the way and manner Armed Robbers operate along Birnin Gwari- Kaduna highway with Impunity which led to the killing of a lecturer of the university.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Dr Sadiq Abubakar Abdu and Secretary Malam Tukur Abdulkadir the body urged authorities to initiate dialogue among the waring parties in the area.

On the killing of their member, late Abubakar Shehu and two others by bandits along Birnin Gwari the statement called for a military checkpoints to be stationed along the highway.

“It is very disheartening to note that, even after the killings of Malam Abubakar and two other passengers on that fateful day, there is no single police or Military checkpoint along the road, apart from the one in Birinin Gwari Town.

“ The branch notes with utter shock and disbelief, the frightening and dangerous rates of unemployment especially among graduates in the country, which led to the loss of about nineteen lives at various recruitment centres organized by Immigration Service,” the statement said.

ASUU further condemned in stronger terms, the refusal of the Federal Government to punish the Controller General of the NIS as well as Minister of Interior, Abba Moro and called for transparency and fairness in the next recruitment exercise.
