The victims were from three villages of Ugwar Sankwai, Ungwar Gata and Chenshyi and were mostly children and women, killed between Friday and Saturday morning.
Gunmen were said to have used sophisticated weapons to massacre the innocent villagers and injured over 48 persons who are presently hospitalized in different hospitals in the state and Plateau states.
In a reaction to the incidence, Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) yesterday told a press conference that 114 people were killed in the attacks.
The National President of the union, Dr. Ephraim Goje said the recent attack on some Communities over the weekend is a declaration of war on all the southern Kaduna people by the perpetrators of the gruesome act.
He said the barbaric and brutal massacre of about 114 innocent and peace loving children and women, the aged and burning down of over 60 houses, food, animal and assets of the people by Fulani herdsmen is nothing but massacre of innocent people.
He further said the painful aspect of the episode was that each time the killing takes place, the Fulani socio-cultural organisations within the state has out-rightly denied the involvement of their people asking for proofs, even when suspects have being arrested and handed over to security agencies for prosecution only for the culprits to be seen working freely on the streets the next day, showing that there is a conspiracy.
“Our greatest disappointment is that we have lived peacefully with these Fulanis for over 400 years and it’s in this spirit that we have had several peace meetings with their leaders all in an effort to encourage peaceful co-existence and harmonious relationship, but each time we did this, the next moment, our communities come under attack by this gorilla styled blood thirsty murderers.
“What comes to our minds now is that, truly, the Fulanis have unofficially declared war on our people. Let it be placed on record that no community has the monopoly of violence, so our people are being pushed to a level that we may take certain actions aimed at defending our people and our land in order to put an end to this impunity.
“We wish to observe that there is no collaboration between the security agencies in Kaduna State and Plateau state so much that the attackers come in from the Plateau axis to attack
Atakar and Marwa chiefdoms and that each time they are chased by security agents from our state, they run over to the Plateau where they work freely celebrating their so-called victories.
“We strongly request that the State Commissioner of Police, the GOC one Division and the Director State Security Services Kaduna State to temporary relocate their offices to Kaura Local Government to comb the forest and hills along the Kaduna –Plateau borders with a view to tracking down and arresting the perpetrators of this heinous act of mass massacre of innocent people,” he said.
“We are asking government to urgently consider our request for the sighting of a Military Barracks within the radius of 25 kilometres of Kafanchan town so that they can quickly respond to all issues concerning security challenges in that area,” he said.
Similarly, Southern Kaduna People in the Diaspora-USA has tasked Federal and state governments to arrest perpetrators of the killings.
It was gathered that National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have visited affected villages to provide assistance to those who sustained injuries during the attack.
Governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero who abandoned a scheduled official assignment in the United States and returned to the country over the deadly attacks on communities in Kaura Local Government Area of the state condemned it in stronger term.
He vowed to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book as he appealed for calm.
