Katsina Poly Mass Comm department demands campus radio

The Mass Communication department of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina state has called on the management of the institution to support the establishment of a campus radio for use by students of the departments.

The department head, Malam Muhammad Bashir Ruwan Godiya made the request, yesterday at the opening ceremony of a one conference on public relations organised by the department.

He said, “The establishment of the campus radio will no doubt benefit the Polytechnic community and the state at large. It will also afford our students the opportunity to learn firsthand the radio production techniques”.

The head of department disclosed that the department, which begin operations since 2000 was in 2005 accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), to run a National Diploma, adding that in 2010, the department got another accreditation to run a Higher National Diploma (HND).

According to him, the department organized the conference having realized that public relations was an indispensable aspect of human life which he said is now been employed by all successful individuals, corporate bodies and international organizations.

In a remark declaring the conference open, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Yusuf Haruna noted that at least two conferences are held annually on Science and Technology as well as Social Sciences and Humanities, purposely to boost idea-sharing between  staff and their counterparts in other institutions.

Also speaking, the guest speaker at the conference, former Special Assistant on Media to Kano state governor, Alhaji Sule Ya’u Sule cautioned public relations practitioners not to equate PR with propaganda or dishing out lies to the unsuspecting public.
