Katsina state Government has reiterated the determination to improve the welfare of Pensioners in the state.
The Head of Civil Service of the state, Alhaji Idris Usman Tune disclosed this shortly before the Flag off of katsina state verification exercise for Pensioners in Daura.
This, he said will be achieved through payment of gratuity and accrued pension to retirees. The HOS revealed that present administration at its inception met huge amount as back log of unpaid gratuity but so far over N25 billion has been settled.
Tune stated that the payment is being conducted in an orderly manner, stressing that pensioners who retired from service up to June 2018 had received their gratuities.
He said very soon clearance and verification of next batch of retirees will commence for the payment of their gratuities disclosing that 728 civil servants will retire from service in the state within the year.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Department of Establishment, pension and training, Alhaji Musa Rabi’u Mahuta, said the exercise is being conducted on annual basis to enhance the welfare of Pensioners in the state.
He said the last time the exercise was conducted was over 10 years.
Mahuta said the verification exercise is not meant to witch-hunt any person rather to improve on the welfare and well-being of Pensioners in the state.
The Permanent secretary then solicited for the cooperation of all pensioners to achieve the desired goal.
In a vote of thanks, the State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Alhaji Mahabub Daura expressed delight with the present administration for the attention being accorded to retired civil servants.
He noted that the decentralization of the exercise in the seven zones of the state will ensure the successful conduct of the exercise.
He then assured the cooperation of all Pensioners for the successful conduct of the exercise.
