Katsina Customs burn N348m worth of illicit drugs

Katsina state Customs Command has burnt N348 millions of illicit drugs smuggled into the country through the land borders of the state.

The Comptroller-in- charge of Katsina- Kaduna Command, Alhaji Muhammad Sharu Ndako, who supervised the destruction of the drugs, warned that bringing  drugs through the land borders is illegal.

Ndako noted that the drugs burnt include 3, 447 cartons, 4,161 Rolls, 2,158 packets, 1,232 bottles and sachets of assorted illicit drugs. He added that most of the drugs burnt include Panadol cough syrup and

Mixagrip, lamenting the health hazards they could have posed had they found their ways into the markets.

The Comptroller similarly disclosed that last year the Command destroyed N227.5 million worth of such drugs, lamenting the audacity of perpetrators of the illegal act.

He therefore assured that his Command would not relent in its effort in riding the society of these illegal businesses. In a remark, Katsina state governor, Ibrahim Shema commended the Command, in its efforts aimed at checking the activities of drug smugglers, whose activities he said is posing serious threat to younger generations and the economy.

Similarly, the representatives of the Emir of Katsina, Sa’ in Katsina, Alhaji Ahmadu Na Funtua assured of the support of tradition institutions in the state in fighting the menace of illicit drugs. In a remark, Governor Shema of Katsina State commended the command in its efforts aimed at checking the activities of drug smugglers whose activities he said is posing serious threat to younger generations and the economy.
