The Kano State Zakkat Commission says the state government has earmarked N10 million to assist the less privileged in its 2015 budget proposal.

The Executive Director of the commission, Alhaji Safiyan Gwagwarwa, said this on Tuesday while defending their programmes before the state House of Assembly’s Committee on the 2015 budget appropriation.

According to him, N10 million out of the N20 million allocated to the commission will be used to assist the less privileged with food stuffs during the 2015 fasting (Ramadan) period, through its programme tagged “Ramadan disbursement”.

He also said that N5 million would be used to assist those that could not afford to settle their house rent due to unavoidable reasons.

The Director said that another N5 million would be allocated to its social developmental programmes.

Gwagwarwa said that one of the responsibilities of the commission was the collection of Zakkat from the rich people and also to ensure its redistribution to those seriously in need.

Also, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Nasir Gawuna, said that N4 billion was allocated for the ministry and its parastatal agencies in 2015.

According to him, the 2015 state’s budget focuses more on the completion of the ongoing projects.

He said that the ministry would also ensure the provision of modern agricultural equipment to enhance and stimulate increased interest in agriculture.

Dr. Gawuna said the ministry would provide loans for more than 10,000 men and women trained in various aspect of agriculture.
