Kano Pillars have kept their Glo Premier League season aglow after two penalties, one in each half, guaranteed Sai masugida their first league win of the season over Warri Wolves.
Both penalties were converted by goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai and midfielder Rabiu Ali.
Okey Emordi’s side failed to beat Sunshine Stars in their first home game of the season after they relied on an injury time equaliser to share honours with the Akure Gunners.
They lost the next away tie 2-1 to Enugu Rangers despite spirited attempts to leave the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium with at least a point.
There was no such heartache in the Wednesday evening clash at the Kano Pillars Stadium as they chalked their first maximum points of the season from two hotly contested penalties awarded against the Seasiders who just returned to the country from Tunisia where they were eliminated in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Two penalties converted by Pillars’ goalkeeper Afelokhai in the 36th minute and Ali’s spot kick towards the end of regulation time handed the full points to the home team.
The first penalty appeal was not just but that the centre referee awarded it even when Warri Wolves’ goalkeeper, Okeimute Odah had minimal contact with an onrushing striker while the second spot kick tucked home by CHAN Eagles’ star, Rabiu Ali was never in doubt.
Pillars thus have four points from a possible nine while Warri Wolves have three points from two games. Pillars will take a trip to Umuahia as guest of Abia Warriors this weekend while Warri Wolves will be waiting for premier league newcomers, Giwa FC in Warri on Sunday.
