Some traders from Kano/Maiduguri axis has commended the Customs Comptroller-General, Abdullahi Dikko Inde for reconstituting the anti smuggling team.
A business tycoon, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ibrahim said this in an interview in Kano.
He said there was a time that hope for business in the north was receding because officers sent from CG’s office to be part of the anti-smuggling team were lodged at Customs Training School,
Goron-Dutse, Kano by their boss while the team engages in illicit business recruiting other officers that are not familiar with the terrain to carry out some “dirty” activities.
According to the business tycoon, the business community in the north in an effort to unravel the power behind the cartel discovered that the then leader of the custom team maintained a permanent suite at a hotel in Katsina. “That is where he spent easy money.
According to Alhaji Ibrahim, the Customs CG anti-smuggling team northern zone as reconstituted should also be commended for effective surveillance of the northern states boarders in anticipation of 2015 general election.
“They should be commended because the operation of the team is a clear departure from operation of the former one that operated from hotel in Kano,” he said.
Ibrahim continued, “As the world battles the insurgent epidemic of Ebola, we were very pleased with the anti-smuggling team because of the truck load of monkey meat intercepted and burnt sometime in Katsina by the team.”
He however said all hands must be on deck to compliment the effort of the government while calling on Customs authorities to compensate the reconstituted anti-smuggling team for effectiveness, honesty and sincerity in their operation.
