From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

A group tagged Progressive Intellectuals of Nigeria (PIN), Kano State chapter, has endorsed the gubernatorial ticket of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Professor Hafizu Abubakar, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the forthcoming elections.

PIN, in a communique issued to journalists at the end of their meeting in Kano yesterday, expressed excitement that Professor Abubakar, its founding National president, has been chosen to deputize Ganduje in the next month’s election.

The group described the combination as an intellectual treasure where both candidates have proven their prowess in the academia, stressing that the entire population of the downtrodden and the victims of injustices are happy with the choice.

“We are excited that Professor Hafizu Abubakar, the founding National President of PIN and a former National President of Network for Justice, is selected to be the deputy governor of Kano State. The entire NGOs and Community-based Organisations in the state are honoured by his choice. The entire population of the downtrodden and the victims of injustices are happy with the choice” the communique reads in part.

According to the group, they were excited that a professor is chosen as a running mate in Kano, just as a professor is chosen as Vice president for Nigeria, noting that change is surely in the offing as exemplified by the APC presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

PIN also noted that it is imperative to call for the increased galvanization and improved unity of purpose in the APC, stressing that given the present predicaments of the country occasioned by the dismal non-performance of Peoples Democratic Party, sacking it (PDP) at all levels of governance in the country cannot be over emphasised.

Members of the group also vowed to embark on a door-to-door campaign to ensure the success of APC at state and national level in the forthcoming elections.
