Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has conducted a customer consultation forum for a formal presentation to its customers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, of the new tariff proposal it has submitted to Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

This was disclosed in a statement issued yesterday by the Communications Coordinator, KEDCO,  Mohammed Kandi.

The forum, according to the statement was part of the efforts to achieve a fair and acceptable tariff for all classes of customers which is ‘cost-reflective’ to enable the company to invest in improvement of supply and customer services.

It said, KEDCO officials presented the tariff schedule for each class of customers providing the customers and their representatives with the opportunity to share their opinion and provide inputs on the matter.

The meeting is mandated by the NERC to enable the distribution company to collect customer comments on the tariff proposals submitted.

The statement said, KEDCO affirmed to its customers that they have followed all the guidelines for the tariff setting process as regulated by NERC and that they have not proposed any increases to the cost of distribution but have used what was provided by NERC.

On their part, some customers commended KEDCO for giving them a platform to express their concerns saying the proposed tariff review by the company was a welcome development.

Abubakar Tanimu Dorayi, a customer acknowledged that KEDCO needed more time to stabilise considering the huge burdens it inherited, adding that, “I will commend the effort of KEDCO for this consultation forum on the review of fixed and energy charges.”

Also speaking, Buhari Shehu Salisu said: “Indeed, we have witnessed great improvement in power supply nation-wide, but I urge KEDCO to ensure it sustains this effort.”
