From Lawal Sa’idu Funtua, Katsina
The Emir of Daura, Faruq Umar Faruq, has turbaned the former Governor of Abia state, Orji Uzo Kalu, as Dan-Baiwan Hausa (The gifted Son of Hausa kingdom) at his palace.
Speaking after the turbarning ceremony, the Emir said he honoured Orji Kalu with the title for the assistance he is rendering in promoting Presidents Buhari political carrier, as well as the struggle he is undertaking for the enhancement of the Nigerian unity.
In his remarks, the Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shitu, who graced the occasion when he paid Sallah homage to President Buhari, described Orji Kalu as a bridge builder, saying “he is enduring the minds of many of his kinsmen and women in the eastern part of the country.’’
Shitu said, “When I heard he is going to be honoured in Daura by the Emir I had to try to honour him with my own presence”, more so as he said the honour coming from Daura, the home of the seven origins of Hausa State kingdoms.
He said what happened will encourage him to do more towards Nigeria’s ultimate coming together.
In his response, the former Abia State Governor thanked the Daura emir for the honor and assured him of working tirelessly for the success of President Buhari and APC in the forthcoming general elections.
Our correspondent reports that dignitaries in attendance at the turbanning ceremony included Plateau state Governor, Solomon Lalong and many Igbo traditional chiefs from Kalu’s home state and neighboring states of Kano and Katsina.
Others were high ranking politicians in Katsina state, traditional rulers and thousands of APC loyalists from across the country.
