Kaduna,Edo lawmakers reject local govt autonomy

Kaduna State House of Assembly yesterday adopted the section of the amended constitution seeking for the creation of eight new states while it also rejected the agitation for autonomy for local government councils as deliberated by the legislators on the fourth alteration bill transmitted to it by the National Assembly.

The chairman of the committee, Barrister Kantiok Irimiya Ishaku representing Zonkwa Constituency while presenting its report at its plenary, said the legislators deliberated on the fourth alteration bill transmitted to it by the National Assembly.

The house also voted “no” against the call for scrapping of the State Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC and voted “yes” in support of name rebranding of Nigeria Police Force to Nigeria Police.

In a related development the National union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo state revolted yesterday across the State in response to the rejection of Local Government autonomy Bill by All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the state House of Assembly.

The decision was reached following the presentation of the Bill for a law to further alter the 1999 constitution amendment by the chairman House committee on Rules, Business and Government House, Hon. Philip Shaibu to the Speaker of the House, Hon. Uyigue Igbe.

58 clauses were contained in the report, which has eight contentious sections of the Bill including the rejected local government autonomy Bill through voice votes by the Lawmakers.
