Kaduna State Governor; Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has said the state has set up a two hundred million Naira empowerment Funds for widows in the state in order to make themselves sufficient.
He disclosed this during the launching of Ebira women Empowerment Foundation held in kaduna yesterday
The Governor who was represented by his Commissioner for Humanity and Social Development Hajia Hasfat Mohammed Baba called on the widows in kaduna state to keyed into the empowerment funds.
He commended the Ebira women for their hard work and urged them to keep it up.
Chief Launcher of the occasion Engr Sani Jimoh expressed dismay over the state of widowhood in Ebiraland particularly and Nigeria generally, saying it is worsened by situations of poverty and lack of access to services and resources.
He stated this during the empowering program for one hundred widows from Ebiraland held in kaduna yesterday.
According to him widows across Ebiraland are among the most vulnerable and destitute women.
He added that they suffered from illnesses, disease, loss of property and a significant decline in social status. The experience of our widow is better imagined than experienced.
Engr Sani Jimoh who is the Managing Director of Sanjimm Software and Design, said the major problems faced by the windows is due to the level of illiteracy, some cultural practices and abject poverty as most widows are compelled against their will and rights into certain inhumane acts as required by certain cultures or to prove their innocence over the death of their husbands.
“Sometimes, they are denied access to their late husband’s property and, at times, even their own children.
“The plight of the less privileged and widows, especially Ebiraland have been of great concern to many sons of the land, including myself.
“That is why I commended the organizer of this occasion who has demonstrated that it helps to help. The non-governmental organization over the years has been committed to elevating of the lives of less privilege widows,” he said
Speaking earlier the Founder of Ebira women Empowerment Foundation Hajia Maimuna Ahmed said the empowerment initiative would make it easy for women to overcome their financial challenges.
She added that her primary aim is to increase women’s access to education and empowerment opportunities, to ensure sustainable livelihood and enable them to live free of gender-based violence.

“My fellow women, it’s high time to stand and find something doing, not to be over dependent on your husbands; doing business and coming out and be voted for, not that you should be voting for people.

“We want you to be active in politics in your locality, environment and you should speak out for your rights,” Adeniseun said.
