The Kaduna State Planning and Budget Commission (PBC), has began a five-day training to build the capacity of the state Committee on Food and Nutrition (SCFN), on leadership, change management and effective nutrition coordination.
Mr Yusuf Auta, Deputy Director, Development Aid Coordination, PBC, in a remark at the workshop holding in Zaria, said that the workshop was organised with support from Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN).
Auta explained that the capacity building was designed to build the capacity of SCFN members to effectively coordinate nutrition interventions and programming in the state.
He said that the training was crucial in equipping the members with new skills and best practices to enable them to create the desired impact in changing the disturbing malnutrition indices in the state.
According to him, Kaduna State is committed to addressing the problem of nutrition through the provision of both human and financial resources for nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions.
“The state will also continue to build the capacity of officials in all nutrition line ministries, department and agencies to enable them carry out their task effectively.
“We expect that after the training, the committee will be more active, efficient, effective and resourceful in coordinating nutrition interventions with guaranteed impact.”
Dr Zainab Mohammed-Karu, the state’s Programme Manager, Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria, in her remarks, described the training as a welcome development, considering the key role of the committee in tackling malnutrition in the state.
