Kaduna APC crisis: Kwankwaso recommends consensus

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Kano state governor, Dr. Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has recommended the adoption of consensus method for the emergence of candidates on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state.

This was part of the resolutions of the APC stakeholders at a meeting with the Kano state governor at a meeting held in Kaduna at the weekend to address the lingering crisis in the party in kaduna.

According to a statement issued at the end of the meeting, the party emphasized that in the event of emergence of consensus candidates, registered party members would be required to vote in favour or against the candidate.

The statement jointly signed by Senator Sani Saleh and Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed read that, “based on the directive of the National Chairman of All Progressive Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, His Excellency

Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso convened a meeting attended by senior leaders of the APC in Kaduna State.

“The purpose of the consultative meeting was to discuss wide ranging issues in preparation for the ward, local government and state congresses taking place between April 5-23, 2014.

“In the event of such emergence of consensus candidates, registered party members will still be required to vote YES in favour of the consensus candidate or NO. Where consensus candidate fails to emerge, registered party members will then vote for the candidate of their choice”, it read.

The meeting equally resolved to, in line with the party constitution, constitute a committee to coordinate the smooth facilitation of the congresses at all levels.

According to the statement, the committee will be co-chaired by Senator Sani Saleh and Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, while other members include; Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Alhaji Yaro Makama, Alhaji Ahmadu Yaro Coca-Cola, Ambassador Sule Buba, Hajia Binta Muazu, Hon Joel Giwa Kwasau and Chief Samuel Onyeama among others.

It however appealed to all party members to close ranks, support the resolutions of the meeting and rally behind the leaders of the party to ensure hitch-free and successful congresses in the state.
