No fewer than 50 suspected armed insurgents hiding in Lamba forest on the Gwaram/Bauchi border were killed by the Joint Task Force (JTF) operating in Jigawa state yesterday.

Director of Press to Jigawa state governor, Mallam Umar Kyari, disclosed this on telephone to our correspondent in the state, saying that the JTF, after their retreat from an earlier bomb attack that killed three soldiers, rounded up the insurgents in the Lamba forest and killed scores of the militants.

According to the spokesman to the governor, “the insurgents had on Monday evening planted a land mine that was detonated while the patrol team of the JTF was combing the area against the insurgents that have been unleashing mayhem on the people of Gwaram local government of Jigawa and its neighbours”.

He said, “after the bomb was detonated and killed three soldiers, members of the JTF returned fire immediately that resulted in the killing of the militants”.

The terrorists lurking in the Lamba forest have been terrorising citizens of Bauchi and Jigawa states, occasionally kidnapping residents of neighbouring communities for ransom, while killing security operatives in both states.
