President Jonathan has urged members of the private sector to invest in the road sector of the economy through government’s Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) policy.
President Jonathan said this yesterday in a speech to declare open the three-day 1st International Roads Federation, Africa Regional Congress, which is on-going in Abuja.
Represented by the Vice-President Arc Namadi Sambo, the President said that the sustained improvement in the road sector and general infrastructural development is paramount in the overall development of the country.
The Minster of Works, Arc. Mike Onolememen, in an address at the event, which had delegations from 26 African countries, urged participants to take full advantage of the congress to engage in activities that would impact positively on the roads sector in the region of Africa and beyond.
Speaking earlier, President of International Roads Federation, Mr. Patrick Sankey said roads clashes were on the increase with more than 15 percent of global fatalities occurring in Africa and called for the use of modern technology to curb the menace of road accidents in Nigeria.
