The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi has flag-off the tree planting campaign in Birnin Kudu local government area of Jigawa State.
The emir who warned the public to avoid cutting-off the trees called on government to review the law that prohibited unlawful cutting of trees in the state.
The campaign which was organised by the community base organisation (Muryar Birnin Kudu) target to plant over 4,000 trees in the local government.
Speaking at the flag-off campaign, the chairman of the organisation and district head of Birnin Kudu, Alhaji Garba Hassan Jibrin said the effort was made to reduce erosion cases in the area.
According to him, four centres including schools, hospitals, police stations and streets would be the major target for the tree planting under the programme.
He said, the 4,000 trees varieties of Dinya, Dorawa, Baure, Maddaci, Gamji, Durimi and Hararrabi would be distribute to the people for planting.
Alhaji Garba then commended the collation of community organisations, traditional rulers and government for their effort to reduce erosion and desert encroachment in the area.
