The peoples of Kanoke and Tsame villages of Kiyawa local government has commended Save the Children for promoting hand washing attitudes in Jigawa state.
The commendation was made yesterday when the team of media practitioners paid a field trip to the communities and health care facilities in the area.
While speaking during the visit, the village head of Kanoke Malam Usaini Hamisu Haruna said, the radio enlightenment programme by Save the children increase the attitudes of hand washing by the people in the village.
“We observed that, as result of this radio programme our people embraced the attitudes of hand washing which equally reduce the level of children diseases in our community” Usaini said.
Also speaking to the team, the village health of Tsame Yusif Malam Haruna the enlightenment programme carried out by Save the children contributed immensely to the reduction of child killer diseases infection in Tsame village.
In his speech the Manager in charge of Kiyawa Primary Healthcare facilities Mr Musa Nababa said, Save the children intervention help in the improvement of immunization coverage in the local government from 67% to 82%.
According to him, save the children give series of training to the health workers in the local government which they subsequently cascaded it the hundred of community volunteers.
” We engaged hundred of community volunteers in campaign against Covid-19, Pneumonia Infection and also how to promote immunization , Antenat, Facility delivery, exclusive breast feeding and proved child complementary food”.
Save the children had also give us Personal Protective Equipment against Covid-19 worth over N7 mill, and also provide us with over 1,500 Tippy – Tap which was distributed to the public palaces ”
While making his remarks during the visit, the Social Behaviour Change Coordinator of Save the children Jigawa state, Mr Ibrahim Haruna said, observing regular hands wash among parents and children reduced the risk of Pneumonia and Covid -19 infection.
According to him,Save the children are encouraging peoples to always wash their hands with available and affordable hand washing materials in their community to tackle the corona virus pandemic and also reduce the risk of Pneumonia infection among the children below 5 years old.
