Jigawa builds state varsity in Kafin–Hausa

The Jigawa state government has started building a state university in Kafin-Hausa local government area, the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Haruna Wakili has said yesterday.

The commissioner made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

Wakili, who said that the university would gulp N7.5 billion, added that N4 billion was appropriated for the institution in 2013 budget, while N3.5 billion was appropriated for it in the 2014 budget.

He noted that three faculties had been completed, while students’ hostels and staff quarters were nearing completion.

He announced that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had approved the admission of 500 students for the 2013/2014 academic session, noting that “the institution will start academic session between May and June.’’

He said the state government had appointed some management staff of the university, including the vice chancellor, registrar, bursar and librarian.

Wakili said 50 lecturers had been employed “and recruitment of staff will continue so that we can have enough manpower to handle the affairs of the institution.’’

He added that 200 non-teaching staff would be recruited before the commencement of the academic session. (NAN)
