From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse
Less than two months to the 2019 general election, two members of the Jigawa State House of Assembly have dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The two members announced their defection formally to the house during its sitting yesterday in Dutse, the state capital.
The Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon Isah Idrith Gwaram, read the letter to the house which was signed by the two lawmakers.
The letter said, the defectors includes Muhammad Abdullahi Balangu, representing Balangu constituency and Usman Masaki Dansule, representing Kaugama constituency.
Commenting on their defection, the member representing Balangu constituency Muhammad Abdullahi, who was also a chairman House Committee on Information ,explained that his defection was because of the failure of APC administration to actualize the change it has propagated during the 2015 general election.
He also accused APC for imposition of candidates, saying that the party is lacking internal democracy; and the only alternative is Social Democratic Party SDP.
“I registered my new membership with the SDP with the hope that things will get better and the voices of the people will be heard, and supersede personal interest” He said.
Finding revealed that the decampees were allegedly decided to dumped from the All progressive to the Social Democratic party SDP for the failure of the ruling party APC to give them a ticket to contest as for second term in the 2019 general election.
It was also learned that Honorable Muhammad Abdullahi representing Balangu was given a ticket by the opposition Social Democratic Party to contest for the seat of state House Of Assembly in coming general election.
Usman Masaki Dansule representing Kaugama constituency was also given a senatorial ticket seat for the Jigawa North East senatorial constituency by the Social Democratic party.
They applauded the leadership of the house and other members for the good cordial working relationship and pledged to continue working with each other for the development of the state.
The number of APC Jigawa assembly state lawmakers has reduced to 25 with PDP have 3 members and SDP 2.
Governor Badaru’s media aide, Bello Zaki has earlier denied the allegations that governor Badaru imposed a candidate on any electorate throughout the party’s primary election.
