Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu has narrated his childhood experiences and how jealous people poured kerosene into his mother’s stew which she prepared to sell in the street and his father lost his car to armed robbers who pushed him into the canal and made away with the car in Lagos.
Ogu who currently plays for Al-Adalah Football Club in Saudi Arabi said that after the robbery incident at Gbagada area Lagos, the family moved to their Cousin’s place who sheltered them.
The former Hapoel Be’er Sheva player noted that each time it rained, they would come out to pack water from their living room but remained grateful that despite all the difficulties, the family remained one and progressed.
Ogu who narrated the emotional story on his Twitter handle, noted that they passed through the challenges with so much pains but added that he told the story to encourage those who are facing challenges not to give up.
“I’m grateful to God for all he has blessed me with. Thinking about when my mum be (was) selling food on the street and people get jealous of her that they had to pour Kerosine in her stew just to make all difficult for her and her Children but we never gave up.
“Arm (ed) robbers stopped my dad some years back and they took his car from him and threw him into canal at Gbagada and he survived it. Thanks to my Cousin @Ogaranyaa and his family for accommodating us at that time. I will always be by your side Cuzo
“It got to a time whenever it rain (ed), we have to be awake to pack water from our living room. We did that all with anger in our heart (s) but hey, I said I will never put my family in shame in life as my parent taught me and my siblings what discipline is all about.
“(I) did all this with so much pain in our heart (s) but (there) comes a day when I decided that football is my life. I stayed humble and went through a lot and today am so grateful to God for all he has blessed me with
“All I pray 4 (for) today is to see my mum healthy. Difficult for her bt (but) I trust God so much to help us. He has always be helping us. My tweet is 4 (for) everyone out there who want to give up in life just because they (are) going thru (through) a lot. Today might be tough but your tomorrow will be great
“I love my siblings Michael Ogu, loveth Ogu, Uche Ogu and Destiny Ogu . I can’t ask for any other siblings in this world,” he narrated.
John Ogu made his international debut for the Super Eagles in 2013 and has gone on to make 25 appearances scoring just once.
