Arsenal FC of England attacking midfielder, Alexandra Iwobi has joined quartet of Wilfred Ndidi, Ogeyi Onazi, Tyrone Ebuehi and Leon Balogun on the Super Eagles injury list few weeks to the commencement of Russia 2018 World Cup.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger confirmed in a post-match conference yesterday that Iwobi suffered a hamstring problem in their 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Television images showed the Nigeria international clutching his hamstring and it was thought he could be out of action for weeks and would miss the upcoming League Cup final against Manchester City and the Super Eagles friendlies against Poland and Serbia next month.
According to Wenger whop described Iwobi’s injury as a “cramp”, said the initial assessment is that Iwobi will be available for selection in the Europa League match against Spanish giants, Athletico Madrid on Thursday. .
Leicester City’s combative midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi in the weekend went through a scan after suffering a serious injury in his team’s 5-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, and is now awaiting the results of the medical examination.
The Foxes medical team has contacted the Nigeria Football Federation and informed them that the defensive midfielder will have recovered before the start of the 2018 World Cup.
“Ndidi suffered a hamstring injury; he has done a scan and is waiting for feedback from the doctors,’’ a top source had informed journalists.
“The focus is on how to get him ready for the World Cup, Leicester City say they are going to do their best. He is very determined to play at the World Cup.
“The Leicester City physiotherapist is in touch with the Nigeria Football Federation and informed them that he will be fit before the start of the World Cup.”
Super Eagles’ vice-captain Eddie Ogenyi Onazi was stretched off after just 28 minutes of his side’s emphatic thumping of Kayserispor after the midfielder pulled up what looked like a hamstring injury.
Onazi, who was making his 14th league start of the season after he was rested in last week’s game, could not continue the game just after the hour mark as he was replaced by Ugur Demirok.
The length of his injury layoff is not yet clear but there is concern he might not feature in the World Cup next month.
