Islamic society warns youth against thuggery

The Chief Imam of Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Gwagwalada Branch in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Imam Suleiman Aliyu, has warned the youths against being used as political thugs in 2019 general elections.
Aliyu gave the warning in an interview with our Correspondent during the society’s National Unity Ramadan lecture/special Ramadan supplication for Nigeria with the theme “Islamic, Politics and the Youths” which was held at New Law Theatre, University of Abuja Mini Campus, Gwagwalada, Abuja on Sunday, also urged the youths not to campaign for corrupt political leaders in 2019 elections.
He further called on the righteous youths to participate in politics, so as to enable them contribute positively towards the development of the country, adding that the youths should not leave politics in the hands of bad people.
His words: “Good and righteous people should partake in politics. You know that the people usually say politics is a dirty game. But it is duty of the righteous people to go into politics and make it clean. So, if we leave politics for the bad eggs in the society, definitely the outcome will be bad for everyone”.
He said: “Nigerians should vote for the righteous politicians and not the politicians who deceive them with money. So, Nigerians should learn from their past mistakes”.
The cleric, however, advised Nigeria citizens to shun corruption which had eaten deep into the fabric of our society, saying that this year’s lecture was organized in order pray for the nation as well educate Muslim community on the need to participate in politics.
Also speaking, the National Chief Imam of Al-Habibiyyah Islamic society, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, charged the youths to be focused in life, while advising them to always shun drug abuse before, during and after the politics.
He appealed to the politicians to play politics in the right way since the 2019 general elections is around the corner, and urged the political leaders to use their positions to provide gains of democracy for the people who voted them into power.
Imam Adeyemi admonished Muslims to fast as was directed by the Almighty God in the Holy Qura’an, adding that Muslims should be conscious of God in this month of Ramadan.
Presenting Al-Habibiyyah’s lecture which tagged” Islam, Politics and the Youths”, the Guest lecturer of the occasion, Mallam (Hon.) Yahaya Ibrahim Girinya, said there was the need for Islamic clerics to go into politics in order to provide purposeful leadership capable of satisfying the aspirations of the masses.
