Irate youths numbering about 100 yesterday invaded the house of the Benue State chairman of All Progressive Congress, Comrade Abba Yaro destroyed it and smashed his three (3)cars.
The house is located along Judges’ quarters behind the permanent site of Zone 4 Police headquarters in Makurdi.
According to an eye witness who is a resident of the area but pleaded anonymity,y,he narrated that trouble started when youths in the area found the body of a young man who worked as security guard in the chairman’s house hanging on a tree.
He said the security was asked to cut branch of a tree torching high cable power that caused light fluctuation and in the process he was electrocuted.
“The body of a young man who people knew was a security guard working for the chairman was found dangling on the tree and we learned that he was electrocuted while trying to cut down the branch of a tree that is touching a high tension wire.
“This angered the youths in the community who invaded his house, pulled down the gate and destroyed the house and smashed cars
Narrating how it happened, Comdade Abba Yaro said one of his security men had Monday morning climbed a tree to cut down part of the branch that was touching high wire tension but got electrocuted.
Yaro said, “I woke up with a noise from people this morning (Monday) to learn that one of my security men climbed a tree to cut the branch of tree that is touching high tension wire and in the process got electrocuted.
“When I asked the other security man, he told me that he warned the man against going to cut the branch of tree that is touching high tension wire and that the man said he knew how he would cut it, only for him to be electrocuted.
“We were in the process of sorting out things when youths came in their large numbers, pulled down the gate and entered the house and destroyed it. You can see all that they were destroyed”, Yaro said biterly
Yaro commended Governor Samuel Ortom who personally visited the house, stressing that the prompt intervention of the governor and police saved his people from been attack.
Governor Ortom condemned the destruction of Yaro’s house by youths and urged them to stop taking law into their hands whenever anything goes wrong.
Our correspondent who visited the house also, observed that the two main gates to the house were pulled down, three vehicles and the house windows were smashed.
