IPAC dormant in Bauchi – Parties cry out

From Ahmad Mohammed, Bauchi

Political Parties in Bauchi State have decried nonfunctioning of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state like the way it’s functioning in other states in the country.
The State Chairman Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hamza Akoshe Akuyam, told reporters that “IPAC is not functioning in the state, because the essence of establishing IPAC was to collate or bring all the parties together, ruling and opposition. Unfortunately, he lamented, the chairman of IPAC is from the ruling party, unlike other states where the chairmen are from opposition party, “So, you don’t expect it to be effective in this state.”
Akoshe alleged that the Chairman never called for a meeting. “Since he was elected as the IPAC chairman, no meeting was held in the state ever since; and no any invitation has reached us. We could not reach him because there is no IPAC office in the state, and everyone knows that it’s through the Inter-Party Advisory Council we would sort out many issues that affect the state such as the fellowship and how to bring harmonious relationship between the parties. In Bauchi, IPAC is just the extension of APC.”
The State Secretary of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Mahmood Babamaji said the Inter-Party Advisory Council only exists at the National Level, but is not working in Bauchi, “ because the leadership would not oppose any state policy or any form of opposition, and if it’s being led by the opposition parties they would have make a difference.”
However, State IPAC Secretary Musa Mato told reporters that IPAC has full structure with all the leadership on ground.
Mato, who is also the chairman of United Nigeria People’s Party in the state, said that IPAC is not truly functioning because its being led by the ruling APC Party chairman, adding if the needful is to be done, the Council is supposed to be led by one of the opposition parties.
He said: “The leadership doesn’t have time to look into the democratic activities in the state. They don’t see any mistakes in the government’s day to day activities.”
Defending the State Chairman of IPAC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Organizing Secretary, Abdulkakdir Gyang Gyang, said the ruling party and IPAC leadership is doing what is desirable for the state; that is why it’s quite, no much noise among the political parties,
“The leadership of IPAC, which I am a member, is working. Election was conducted; all the parties in the state are present, and it was supervised by INEC that gave mantle of leadership to APC chairman, who is doing well in terms of bringing all parties together to work towards development of the state.”
He however said those making accusations their allegations are baseless and unfounded, urging them to come and join hand with the IPAC leadership and move the state forward, instead of making noise behind the scene.
