The Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Area, Alhaji Suleman Dauda Chukuba has engaged the service of a vigilante group in the area to complement the efforts of the Mobile Police men deployed to the area due to the incessant attacks on some communities in the council by armed bandits,
The chairman explained that the engagement of the vigilante group has become imperative as a result of the increasing proportion of the activities of the armed men that have been terrorising the villagers in recent times.
The chairman, who spoke to newsmen in an interview yesterday in Minna, stated that the vigilante group will assist the police to check mate the activities of the bandits that have displaced the villagers from their residents.
He maintained that his administration is committed towards safeguarding the lives of his people which informed his decision to engaged the service of the vigilante group with the aim of curtailing the activities of the bandits.
According to the chairman, the engagement of the vigilante group by the council was only the option in view of the series of attacks by the armed bandits adding that the vigilante group will assist the police in patrolling the forest where the armed men use to follow to carry out their attacks.
He noted that the engagement of the vigilante group by his administration was as a result of them been part of the community “and they are more familiar with the terrain than the mobile police men they will give them backup to carry out their operation within the villages”.
The council chairman explained that his administration will do everything within the ambit of the law to ensure the protection of the lives and property of his people in his capacity as the chief security officer of the local government stating that the activities of the armed bandits and other security challenges are the critical challenge his administration inherited “and I will by the support of God will surmount them’.
He noted that as a result of the frequent attacks on the villagers who are mostly farmers, “they can’t go to their farms any longer as a result of the activities of these kidnappers. They have abandoned their farms and can’t even go near their farms to harvest their farm products. I think with the combined efforts of the security men deployed to the local government by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, the villagers will now feel secured in their Communities,” he noted.
While appreciating the efforts of the Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello for requesting the deployment of the mobile police men to his local government area , Dauda Chukuba assured that he will complement his effort by supporting the security agencies with the needed logistics that will enable them carry out their duty in the area.
