A group, Tiv Youth Organization, has frowned at cynical statements emerging from the Presidency and top shots in Buhari’s led Federal Government aimed at changing the narratives about Fulani herdsmen attacks on the people across the country.
In a statement signed by its President, Timothy Hembaor, and made available to Peoples Daily, the group said the revelations coming from the Presidency and other top government functionaries that politicians are responsible for the herdsmen killings across the country is unacceptable because the President is also a politician.
“The last time President Muhammadu Buhari was in London with the Archbishop of Canterbury, at that meeting, he attributed the ongoing conquest and occupation of territories in Nigeria by herdsmen militia to Libyan mercenaries.
“At another occasion, his Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, said the blocking of cattle routes and grazing reserves was justification for the pogrom”, he said.
Hembaor said leaders of various Fulani groups have come out to state that cattle rustling is the reason for the massive deaths and wondered why several others are attributing the ongoing ethnic cleansing to the enactment of anti-Open grazing laws.
The TYO President claimed that since “President Muhammadu Buhari is a politician, Fulani man and patron of various Miyetti Allah groups, the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigeria Armed Forces and chairman of the National Security Council, the security agencies are answerable to him against defenceless and innocent Nigerians.
“The most recent and perhaps, the most bizarre is the claim that proof and evidence have emerged that politicians were sponsoring killings across the country
“Despite, the fact that leaders of Fulani groups have come out to state that cattle rustling is the reason for the killings, he questioned the Presidency is blaming politicians for the killings”.
Hembaor argued that before the President blamed politicians for sponsoring killings, Garba Shehu, President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, attributed the massacres to climate change and the drying up of the Lake Chad.
“All those changing narratives are cover up for the wanton massacre and land grabbing campaign of the Fulani herdsmen. But we all know that the killings are a simple and straight forward story – the conquest and occupation of fertile lands in Nigeria through a scorched earth policy,” he stated.
The TYO President further stated that one of the most worrisome was comment by Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, who publicly declared that Nigerians should give up their land for ranches or face death.
