Following the insecurity situation that bedeviled the north-east region, viewing centres meant for football fans in Gombe were forcefully shut down due to fear of being attack by gunmen.

Speaking yesterday, in Gombe, one of the viewing centre owners, who did not want his name published, told our correspondent that it is high time to be security conscious whenever one is, noting that there was series of  attacks at viewing centres where many football fans were reportedly killed by the insurgents through bomb blast.

He said the insurgents are now targeting viewing centres which, according to him, have claimed many lives of fans, who are supporting Nigeria players that play in Europe, stressing that recently, a viewing centre was bombed in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, where football fans were watching a World Cup match between Brazil and Spain, which led to scores of people dead.

According to him, there is need for viewing centres and relaxation spots to be closed, in order to free people from being attacked by insurgents, adding that many people being attacked by the insurgents were either attacked at the relaxation spots or viewing centres.

When our correspondent contacted the Police Public Relation Officer  (PPRO), Gombe state Police Command, DSP Fwaji Atajiri said he could not comment on the issue.
