Insecurity: ‘Failure to trial suspects responsible’

Vigilante Group of Nigerian Commander- General, Alhaji Sokoto has attributed the deteriorated state of insecurity to lack of prosecution and trial of suspects arrested by security agencies in the country.

According to him, if the government has been punishing those arrested terrorizing the people that would saved as deterrent to others.

He disclosed this while speaking to newsmen shortly after the group National Executive Council meeting with the theme insecurity in Northern Nigeria and the way out held in kaduna.

Alhaji Ali Sokoto further added that police and other security agencies have suffered negligence from the government for decades which was why they are finding it difficult to tackle the insecurity problem in the country.

“This is why we want the government to provide us with equipment so as to support the police and other security agencies to combat the insurgents in the country. We are not saying the government should give us guns but let the government provide us with vehicles to enable us move around.

“We are local people and we are more closer with the ordinary people within the societies. So we can assist the police better if assisted with necessary equipment so as to discharge our job efficiently. But the government need to trial and prosecute those criminals arrested” he said.

The VGN commander General further reiterated their readiness to partner with the police to combat crimes and make Nigeria a better place to live.

He said the VGN is a partner and friend to Police not rival, saying the group is only trying to assist in its little way to make Nigeria a safe country.

Alhaji Ali also appealed to all VGN commanders nationwide to be dedicated to their jobs.

In his remarks, Representative of Divisional Police Officer, DSP John Auta advised the vigilante to be civil while dealing with members of the public.
