Members of a committee set up by Jigawa State House of Assembly to find out the reasons behind the killings of 6 Fulani men by soldiers at Saminaka village in Lere local government area of Kaduna state some few days ago, yesterday disclosed that the victims were innocent nomads minding their business in the area.
According to the lawmakers, four of the victims shot dead by the soldiers were Jigawa state indigenes, while the remaining two were from Bauchi state.
The leader of the delegation, Hon. Rabi’u Dan Gabi Kwalan said the House leadership expressed shock over the unnecessary killing of innocent people who were rearing their animals at a designated government grazing reserve in Kaduna state.
The lawmakers, who disclosed this to newsmen in Kaduna, also said the essence of their visit to the state was because Jigawa state House of Assembly deemed it necessary to show its concern on what actually happened to its fellow citizens.
It was also gathered that the group also met with the State Police Command Umar Shehu and were also to meet with the GOC of one Mechanize Army Division Kaduna on the issue.
The killing was condemned by Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, in which they accused the military of extra-judicial killings of their members across the country.
