Infrastructural decay wrecks FCT Social Development Secretariat

Despite the policy trust of Malam Muhammad Musa Bello’s FCT led administration of sustaining policies and programmes of previous administrations which were designed for the welfare of the citizens, the FCT Social Development Secretariat has abandoned all the the skill acquisition programmes in the Territory.
Checks revealed that since the inauguration of the Mandate Secretaries on September 25, 2017, the SDS Secretary, Hon. Oladimeji Hassan, seems to have ignored the directives and policy trust of the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello.
It could be recalled that upon assumption of duty over two years ago, the minister had made his policy direction clear, stating that programmes and policies of previous FCT Administrations which were designed for the overall interest of Abuja residents must be sustained and improved upon.
However, investigation by our correspondent has revealed that the Social Development Secretariat under the leadership of Hon. Oladimeji Hassan appears to be heading in an opposite direction.
Aside representing the minister at few occasions in the early weeks after he assumed duties, SDS Secretary has rarely been engaged in official duties that conforms with the minister’s policy trust.
It was also learnt that since the Secretary assumed duties, he has not visited any of the project sites and facilities of the secretariat under him, even those within the city centre.
Furthermore, it was observed that even the tastefully equipped Dame Patience Youth Centre at Nyanya, which was hitherto used by the administration to empower hundreds of FCT youths and women has largely been neglected and in comatose.
Expectedly, some of the youths who spoke in separate interviews confirmed the development, stating that the center has been neglected and abandoned by the present FCT Administration.
According to a youth who have his name as Christian Ayuba, told our correspondent that besides few recreational activities like football, no major skill acquisition facilities are functioning at the center, a development he noted that will adversely affects youths and women.
He said: “Oga, you can see for yourself that we only come here to play football in the evenings and at best to relax.
“Honestly, nothing is happening now and if government is still voting money for the development and upgrade of facilities, I can tell you that the money has missed road.
“Just take a look at the center, you will agree with me that the aim of establishing the center for skill acquisition has been defeated.”
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the Lugbe Centre under the management of Social Development Secretariat for the rehabilitation of repented commercial sex workers is worse affected.
In the same vein, in spite of the intensified continuous evacuation of commercial sex workers from the street of Abuja, the place designed for their rehabilitation and empowerment now in a serious dilapidating condition.
On a visit to the centre, it was observed that rodents and reptiles from nearby bushes have moved into the centre in search for better shelter.
Equally, another area facing seemingly total neglect by the Secretariat is sports development among youths, as it has been observed by sports analysts that the Secretary in charge of sports promotion has not stepped his foot on the Area 10 sporting facilities which is located less than 300 metres from his office.
And several attempts to reach the Secretary proved abortive as he is said to be very busy with his political ambition in Kwara state.
