Infantry is vanguard of army, says COAS

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.GenYusuf Buratai has said the Infantry Corps is the vanguard of the Nigerian Army because of their versatile.
He stated this in his opening remark at the 2nd Infantry Corps Conference held in Jaji yesterday.
According to the COAS, the Infantry Corps are not push over because they easily fits into any position.
He encouraged men and officers of Corps to maintain the high standards associated with the Infantry.
Gen.Buratai promised to sustains the infantry Corps conference because the reunion is an avenue to acquire new knowledge from past leaders of the Infantry Corps.
Speaking on the fight against the insurgency in the North East, General Buratai said the army in collaboration with the Joint Multinational Forces is moving to senitise the Northern part of the Borno state.
He however, cautioned that the security of lives and property is the responsibility of all. He said the insurgents are not from heaven but leave eat and go to the market like any other citizens.
The COAS therefore called on the populace to avail the Army with information that will help in the fight against insurgency.
In his remark, the guest lecturer Maj Gen. Alexande Mshelbwala RTD said any Army that loss its infantry Corps has lost everything.
In his paper: ‘The Nigerian Army Infantry: Buckling up the uncharted tomorrow ‘ Gen Mshelbwala said the Nigerian Infantry otherwise known as foot soldiers are the soul of the army who confronts the enemies and destroy them.
He added that, all wars are won by the Infantry, saying the Corps must never be allowed to collapse because if that happens the army will fail.
Gen Mishabwala advocated for a proper training and equipment of the Infantry Corps , adding that proper career planning should be the focus of the leadership of the Corps.
He however, warned that the resilience of the Infantry should not be taken for granted.
In his welcome address the Commander Infantry Corps Maj. Gen. S O Olabanji thanked the COAS for making the Infantry Conference a success.
He further said the gathering present opportunity for the infantry to interact and brainstorm on contemporary issues affecting the nation in general and the army in particular.
“The nation is currently grappling with a lot of security challenges with scourge of tourism in the North East being the most prominent.
“The Infantry Corps has been at the Vanguard of NA efforts in combating these multi prolonged threats and in the process making high demands on our personnel, equipment other materials,” he said
