The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged political parties in Bauchi State to establish an enduring platform that could lead to a stable and credible electoral culture in the country.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi made the call at the election of the new executives of the State Chapter, Inter-Party Advisory Council held at the Development Exchange Center Bauchi. He advised the politicians to stand firm towards strengthening Democracy through constructive advice and political engagement.
The Commissioner said Political Parties being Major stakeholders in the Nigerian Democratic project, there is need for them to establish an enduring platform that could lead to a stable and credible electoral culture in the country.
Abdullahi recalled that, based on the Political Parties Code of Conduct twenty thirteen, Inter-Party Advisory Council was established among others to promote mutual interest of all political parties and adhere to the provision of the code of conduct in addition to contribution to peaceful, free, credible and transparent election.
Represented by the Administrative Secretary of the Commission, Alhaji Usman Baba Bukar, the Commissioner assured the readiness of INEC in the state to work with the new officials of the Council.
The Returning Officer of the Election, Alhaji Hamisu Santuraki declared Chairman of the APA Party Abdullahi B Muhammad as the winner of the election having scored the highest votes.
Alhaji Hamisu Santuraki, who is the National Secretary, Advisory Council expressed satisfaction for the peaceful conduct of the election and charged the new officials to justify the confidence reposed in them.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Abdullahi B Muhammad who called for member’s support for the development of democracy in the state, assured to work in synergy with INEC to achieve it’s set objectives.
