Improve funding on education, Unilorin charges FG

The Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun, has called on governments at all levels to prioritize education and improve the budgetary allocation to the sector.
Akkogun, who made the call at the weekend while speaking at the 14th Graduation Ceremony of Darul Qalam Nursery/Primary School, G.R.A.
Ilorin, described education as the determinant of the success or otherwise of other sectors of the nation’s economy. He said that if education is given the adequate attention it deserves, it will have positive impact on all other sectors.
The director, who was the chairman of the ceremony, said that the Nigerian educational system would continue to fumble and wobble until the government improves on the funding of the system.
Mr. Akogun also called on parents and guardians to accord priority attention to the education of their children, describing sound and functional education as the key to achieving success in life.
He advised the graduating students to remain focused and strive hard to achieve their dreams of attaining secondary and tertiary education so as to become useful and responsible citizens of the country in future.
The guest speaker on the occasion, Alhaja Jemilat Funmilayo Gold, encouraged parents to develop positive mental attitude towards the monitoring of their children in their various schools.
Speaking on the “Role of Parents on Children’s Education”, Alhaja Gold, who is a former Principal of the Federal Government Girls College, Omu-Aran, particularly charged the parents to always follow up on their children’s progress in school and cultivate the habit of asking questions from school authorities if their children exhibit strange habit or come home with very dirty school uniforms.
