Enyimba forward Mfon Udoh has expressed his delight emerging as the Nigeria Premier League topscorer, and also revealing his plan for next season. Udoh in this exclusive interview with Goal revealed his delight emerging Nigeria’s top flight league all-time record scorer with 23 goals. The 22-year-old also shared his desire for the People’s Elephants to retain the Federation Cup again and his biggest dreams to play in Europe most likely in January.

How will you describe the out gone season in your career?

Yes, I must say it is a perfect season. Winning the top scorer award means a lot to me. I’m really grateful to God and wish to use this medium to appreciate my coaches, my teammates, importantly Coach Kadiri Ikhana for making it possible for me. He made me know more about myself, rediscover myself, see what I can do. He has been encouraging me into trying to score in every game of the season.

How do you feel setting an all-time league goal record?

It means so much writing my name in the history books of Nigeria’s scorers of all time. It makes me feel so glad. It shows that at least I’ve done some thing right. I think hard work had paid off for me. I wish those attackers which are going to be playing in the league next season to work hard and break the record. It really means so much to me breaking and setting a new all time goal record. I’m so glad with the attackers this season. It really showed the league is improving. You can see almost two people have beaten the last record set in the Nigeria Premier League. So I really hope the attackers will come up to break the record.

Records show you have not scored much goals from the many chances you created, why?

I’ve have no regrets about it. Making the chances is not really easy and been in the right place to score the goals at times is not also easy. Being in the right position is what really matters. You can only score the once you can score because you cannot score all the goal. Scoring is not that easy as people thinks.

How much difference has the just concluded season been from the previous one for you?

Nothing too much difference though this season, It’s just the improved hard work. It’s just that I have scored more of goals than last season. Last season I score 15 goals at Akwa United and this season scored more goals. It’s is unimaginable for, but I think my career is on the right track.

You won the league’s golden boot, but lost the league’s title, how do you feel?

It’s a mix-feeling for me getting the highest goal scorer award and losing the league title. I still give glory to God. Though we still have a cup final to play. So winning the Federation Cup final which is one of the two trophies will not be bad.

How will you describe your club’s performance this season and victory over Kano Pillars?

Well, despite losing the trophy to Kano Pillars, winning in our final game of the season against them was just the most important thing we needed to do. We needed three points and we grabbed it. Enyimba is a good and great team. The atitude here is difference. Very discpline. Everything here is set in place. The performance of the team is very superb. The team works hard very well. We have fantastic players which makes you to sit up at all the time to ensure to earn a starting place at all time. In terms of performance the team had a good season.

What are your desires for Enyimba in CAF Champions League next season?

Yea, hopefully I think we will do well this time. I just hope we start league season early. Last season in the Champions League, we were looking for the black goat in the middle of the night. That’s mean we didn’t start early on time. Other countries who started their league had themselves in good shape. I think failing to start our league on time was the major reason why we crashed out so early. If we do things right i believe Enyimba can win it again.

What target do you have ahead of next season?

Well, I’m hoping to play in one of the top class leagues outside the shores of this country. Most importantly some where in Europe. It depends on where the offers come from, but I will fancy to play in Spain. I believe the time is ripe for me to move to the next level and compete with other top strikers in the World.

Nice talking to you Mfon Udoh
