In a bid to orientate its youths towards a bright and promising future, Ikeja local government yesterday, organised a seminar on ‘Evils of Cultism’ for Secondary School students in the area.
The Chairman Ikeja Local Government, Mr. Wale Odunlami, who was represented at the event by the HOD Education Dr. Mrs. Kemi Adefawakon declared that the programme is crucial as the students’ next phase of life is University where cultism thrives.
The Chairman, who affirmed that cultists are known to be deadly in tertiary institutions admonished the students to stay focused on their studies and keep good company.
Dr. Olufemi Michael of the University of Ibadan, an activist and member of anti-cult body, Operations Campus Storm (OCS), who delivered a paper titled: ‘’ Cultism is Poisonous’’ blamed secret cults for creating the atmosphere of indiscipline, lawlessness, recklessness and mindless destruction of life and property which we experience today in our society.
Olufemi also cautioned the students that cultism will lead them to poor performance and such offences that could see them being kicked out from school, or even lose the love and respect of their family.
He, therefore, urged them to resist any attempt by persons or groups trying to co-opt them into cultism adding there is nothing to gain but much to lose by joining them.
