From Matthew Aramunde, Lagos

Frontline Igbo leader, Chief (Sir) Virginus Odomaka has said that any party that will elicit the support of the Igbo community in the forth -coming election in 2015 must be ready for a partnership relationship with them or nothing.

He made the remark on the occasion of the celebration of this year’s version of the annual Igbo yam festival hosted by the Eze Ndigbo of Lagos State, Hyacinth Ohazurike at Ifako, a suburb of Lagos, at the weekend.

In a chat the Peoples Daily, Odomaka said it is no longer going to be business as usual when the Igbo man is used by political parties to achieve their aims and dumped like orange peel, stressing that this time around they are prepared to sit in a discussion with any party that still feels the Igbo man is relevant, relevant prior to election and thereafter, where we shall demand the terms of partnership in our participation in the political calculus of Lagos State.

His words: “We shall no longer be taken on a roller coaster ride by those who think we are only relevant prior to an election and later dumped. We are aware that we are relevant to the political calculus of Lagos politics and so we shall demand to be active partners and not passive partners, not any more shall we be relegated to the back ground”.
