Sokoto state government yesterday awarded contract for the procurement and installation of Dynamic Integrated E-Portal and other soft wares at the State owned Polytechnic and Shehu Shagari College of Education at the cost of N147.4 million.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Education, Malam Danladi Bako shortly after the state’s executive council meeting held on Wednesday in Sokoto.
According to the Commissioner, the softwares include that of system analysis, course registration, students’ identity, data collection and e-learning among others.
He said they were meant to enhance computer literacy and improve quality of learning in the schools.
On his part, the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Prof. Musa Maitafsir said, the sum of one billion Naira was approved by the council as counterpart funding for projects under the state Universal Basic Education for 2014.
Maitafsir however said the state government is now awaiting the contribution of the federal government of the same amount.
He explained that the monies would be used to carry out major repairs of schools requiring renovation and other works across the state.
The Commissioner said the state used to be floating among the average performing states but because of concerted activities and constant supervision is now among the sixth highest performing states in the country.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Bello Danchadi said the equipment of Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories of 10 upgraded Junior Secondary Schools cost N52.2 million while vehicle loans to high ranking officers of the state’s Judiciary costs N102 million.
Other contracts awarded include, the completion of Dange-Wababe road at the cost of N95.9 million.
