- Denies hiring 7 SANs for his defense

Governor Tanko Al makura of Nasarawa state yesterday assured the people of Nasarawa state that he will make himself available to defend all the allegations leveled against him by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
He made the assertion while playing host to traditional rulers, student union body, Yoruba, Igala and Igbo groups at the Presidential Lodge in Lafia, the state capital, who paid him Sallah homage as well as commiserate with him over the impeachment plan.
Addressing the crowd, he said that the people of Nasarawa should come together and ensure that their mandate is not being taken away by some few selfish politicians who never wanted good thing for the state.
His words “this mandate given to me by you will never crack, a mandate even if the whole country team up against it will never succeed, a mandate that no one will fail it or a mandate that no Jupiter will temper with it”.
According to him the APC government in Nasarawa state was put in place legitimately true a due democratic process; adding that all that has happened in the past few weeks is a mere lies against him and he is set to defend it.
He continued “we have both Christians and Muslims, APC and PDP members all here gathered to commiserate as well as express your feelings on the recent ugly development that occurred in the state.
Al makura further told them that APC came to change the bad system that was in practice by the previous administrations as well as a change that will transform both cities and rural communities and not a change that will loot the treasury of the state government as was experienced in the past.
“I believed in due process and my government will never indulge in corruption as long as I am the governor who abide to transparency and accountability policies since I assumed office” “he said.
He, however, appealed to the people of the state to live in peace with one another in respective of tribe, ethnicity and religion.
Meanwhile, the state government has denied speculations that governor Al-makura has hired 7 Senior Advocates (SANs) to defend him at the probe panel set up by the state Chief Judge, Justice Umaru Dikko, to investigate the 16-points allegations leveled against the governor.
The state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Innocent Lagi, denied the speculation yesterday, in a chat with our reporter, confirming however that the governor has hired a certain number of lawyers to argue his case before the panel.
Lagi explained that most of the allegations against the governor border on non-compliance and not that Al-makura outrightly stole money due to the state, stressing that there was the need for lawyers to interpret the law appropriately.
“Yes, Al-makura has sought the services of some lawyers, but they are not 7 SANs”, Lagi stated.
Media reports suggested that Governor Al-makura, in his bid to stop the impeachment plan by the state House of assembly, has engaged 7 SANs to defend him at the probe panel.
The Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Affairs, AbdulHamid Kwarra, was said to have recently confirmed this to journalists in Lafia, when he expressed optimism that the governor will be vindicated at the end of the probe because the governor is innocent.
The governor’s aide was reported to have also said that governor Al makura, is innocent of all allegations leveled against him by state House of Assembly, noting that governor’s legal team are capable of defending him.
