Ten armed police men in mufti, reportedly invaded a popular Pentecostal church in Lagos, the People of Peculiar Ministry International, Araromi, Igando, Lagos, dispersing worshippers and whisking away the Pastor over an illegal N300, 000 debt.

The policemen said to be acting out the instruction of the Divisional Police Officer, Amukoko Division, Mr. Abayomi Agbana, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), had initially allegedly lied that they were from GID Ikeja to execute a court order.

However, when the protocol officer, Mr. Samuel Ajakaiye demanded to see the court order; the officers felt offended at his temerity to question them and were alleged to have descended on him beating him to a pulp. They were said to have thereafter ransacked the offices, kitchen and the pastor’s rest room turning everything upside down in the process.

According to Ajakaiye, who at the time of filling this report was still nursing a swollen eye narrated that they were having a morning session prayers and that at about 630am their attention was drawn to an old commercial bus that suddenly stopped in front of the church, with the occupants jumping out of the yet to stop vehicle.

In an interview with our correspondent Pastor Hepzibah, the popular Tele-evangelist aka ‘Baba Peculiar’ said, “These men invaded our church, brutalized members and made away with three of my handsets and over half a million naira. I have never seen or received this kind of embarrassment in my life. I am not a robber or fraudster and these people came all the way from Apapa to humiliate me and my members. They wounded our Protocol officer Samuel. I had to calm down when their DPO apologized because I am a servant of God.”

However, the police spokesman, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Kenneth Nwosu, promised to verify the incident.

I was learnt that trouble started for the church after they purchased a bus from one Mr. Alabi Haruna for N1.2 million, and paying N900, 000 upfront with the promise to pay the balance of N300, 000 after the bus was tested. However, it was discovered later the bus needed repairs, consequently Haruna was asked to make repairs or refund funds.

He was said to have resorted to the use of police after hiding for almost one year from the church
